Chemotherapy options

Chemotherapy is the use of anticancer drugs designed to destroy cancer cells or impede their ability to grow and reproduce. For many gynecologic cancer patients at City of Hope, chemotherapy is an important part of treatment.

Using evidence-based medicine, our doctors strive to find the most appropriate treatment options for you. At City of Hope, our team of specialists is experienced in delivering targeted, individualized chemotherapy treatment while also proactively managing side effects.

One of the methods used to deliver targeted therapy to gynecologic tumors is:

Intraperitoneal chemotherapy

This method targets the ovaries and abdominal area with a higher concentration of chemotherapy drugs while limiting the amount that reaches the rest of the body.

During treatment, chemotherapy drugs are injected through a catheter, which may be implanted during debulking surgery. Some women receive intravenous chemotherapy at the same time as intraperitoneal chemotherapy.
