Personalized cancer care for the whole patient

Integrative cancer care

At City of Hope, you are more than your diagnosis. You are an individual who deserves care that’s personalized to your needs, treatment goals and preferences, with compassionate, integrative cancer care designed for the whole patient.

Our multidisciplinary care teams deliver integrated care with a two-pronged approach. First, conventional treatments attack the disease itself. At the same time, evidence-informed therapies help combat cancer-related side effects. The two together, conventional cancer treatments and supportive therapies, delivered simultaneously by a collaborative team of clinicians—that’s integrative cancer care.

This approach helps you maintain your strength and improve your overall quality of life before, during and after treatment. In addition, these evidence-informed supportive care services are designed to help:

  • Ease side effects of treatment
  • Keep your body nourished
  • Promote your independence

We know that managing the side effects of cancer treatment is half the battle. We strive to help you achieve physical, emotional and spiritual wellness.

Conventional treatment options

Diagnostics/Imaging
At City of Hope we use a wide variety of medical imaging tools, including CT, PET and MRI, to diagnose cancer, performing detailed laboratory tests with expedited turnaround times.

Surgery
Our skilled surgeons are trained and experienced in performing sophisticated surgical procedures, including curative, diagnostic, preventative, palliative and constructive surgery.

Radiation therapy
Our radiation oncologists use standard-of-care and, when appropriate, advanced technologies to deliver high doses of radiation to tumors, using techniques designed to do less damage to healthy tissues and organs and reduce the risk of side effects.

Chemotherapy
Our medical oncologists strive to find the right chemotherapy drug, or combination of drugs, for each person. We may use tests to identify an appropriate drug combination for your disease and help you avoid unnecessary toxicity.

Immunotherapy
Immunotherapy stimulates the body's immune system to help fight cancer. Immunotherapy may be used in combination with other cancer treatments, such as chemotherapy, radiation and surgery.

Evidence-informed supportive therapies

Behavioral health
A behavioral health therapist may help you and your family cope with cancer and treatment-related issues, such as emotional and relationship concerns, anxiety and stress.

Naturopathic support
A naturopathic support provider may provide suggestions to help assist with normal metabolism and digestion during cancer treatment and help manage side effects, such as nausea or fatigue.
