Additional treatment options

Your blood cancer team may employ other state-of-the-art treatment options in addition to stem cell transplantation, chemotherapy and radiation therapy, based on the cancer type and stage, and your individualized treatment.

Some of the treatment options available to blood cancer patients at City of Hope include:

Clinical trials

City of Hope offers clinical trials as part of our commitment to bringing our patients new and innovative cancer treatment options, especially for patient with advanced cancer or who may have run out of standard-of-care approaches. The research team at City of Hope carefully identifies and studies new and emerging treatment options that are supported by scientific and investigational research. Your care team will work with you to determine if you qualify for an existing trial and, if so, help you enroll.

Immunotherapy

Immunotherapy is a broad category of cancer therapies that use your body’s immune system to fight cancer. Drugs known as checkpoint inhibitors may be used to treat some patients whose previous treatment was not effective or who have experienced recurrence.

Targeted therapy

Targeted therapy drugs are designed to seek out specific gene mutations or proteins on cancer cells and destroy those cells, or help other therapies, such as radiation, work more effectively. Monoclonal antibody therapy is a type of targeted therapy that may be used to treat some blood cancers. Your doctor may use monoclonal antibodies alone or in combination with chemotherapy or radiation therapy.
